Duncan Farmers Market

Always enjoy visiting Farmer's Markets for the food, for the entertainment, for the people watching and also for the dogs. The Duncan Farmer's Market allows people to bring their dogs, it's a topic of debate for a while, if they should be allowed but so far it's one of the reasons I love to go.  I visit the market for my own shopping ( I love a few of the vendors so do weekly refills of my favourite things.)  This week I decided to bring along my camera with a goal to capture 6 pups at the market.  It is a busy place with lots of people and distractions, so it was intended to be a challenge allowing me to get out of the house, create  an image within about 5 minutes, and meet some very nice pets and people.

I tend to follow rules so I was very nervous about being in peoples way ( ie squatting down, or laying down) slowing the flow of people just wanting to get their farm goods and be gone.  I was also a bit concerned that the Market itself had some 'policy' around photographs.... so I had a huge story in my head about getting in trouble or being told off.  Oh my goodness what the brain does to get in the way of fun.  So when I say it was a challenge it really was!

New images will be posted weekly, keep scrolling down the page to see more of the awesome Market Dogs

The day was so much fun and so successful.  Met a few great pups, got some awesome shots, and will be back at the market next week for more.  Hope to see you there.

Please reach out if one of your dogs is featured here and I will send you the image.  photos@kimyanick.com or follow IG

Happy Halloween!  Last session at the market for this month.  The next few weeks I have shoots so won't be back to the market until around the 13th of November.  Hope to see you all there!

October 9, 2021

The morning markets are getting a bit wetter but surprisingly just as busy if not more!  Today ( Oct 9th ) I was not sure if it was going to work or not due to rain, but I was NOT disappointed!  The dogs I get to meet and chat with their fur parents is just awesome.. I do love to connect.    Unfortunately, I was a bit off my game this morning and missed my fist pups name... DOH!  I guess I was too excited to get started!  Anyhow hope you all enjoy and see you perhaps next week...

??

this little one was my first shot of the day. I love the fierceness. If you see this and know this little one's name please let me know!!

Kayah

Seems to be a few puppies at the market lately, this is 5 months old Kayah ( I am SURE I spelled that wrong ) those eyes... swoon. Hope to see her again as she grows up!

Kayah

Those colours and that focus.

Meet Kootney

I for the life of me could not remember Kootney's name.. it took a few times while shooting to get it right. I think we nailed it though.

Kootney

Can you guess Kootney's breed? Bet you can't. I will give you a hint, it cross between a scientists white coat and a poodle. LOL

Meet Cole

I adore these great beasts I own one myself, so when I saw Cole hanging out with his mum, Laura and dad Michael enjoying the market I HAD to get a shot. I was forewarned he never takes good photos.. but I think he nailed it here!

Shivo (the great)

I mean all dogs are great don't get me wrong, but when I saw him wearing a sweat shirt all I could think of for some reason was Rocky! Does anyone else see that? Anyhow this little one is a hoot, and showed off his focused attention.

Meet Shivo

Shivo is about 3 years old and a rescue mix. I asked his mum if she had any idea of his breed and we came up with.... Boxer, Whippet, Staffey and a Chi. Yep I see that. Also, that under bite... OMGoodness.

Meet Rolo

When a dog has his own insta - you know it is going to be a cool shot! Follow him @ rolo_adventure_pup

Rolo

I saw Rolo hanging out with his dad enjoying some market food and I literally ran up to them to ask to take a shot. We enjoyed a little chat and then checked out his insta! Yep this one is famous.

Meet Bert

Now how do you not stop to capture a very cool looking dude like Bert! I mean really!

Bert

Is a bull terrier, such interesting breed, and what a regal profile! Thank you Bert for the pose!

Meet Oreo

This little lady is Oreo, she got her name from Oliver one of her small humans. I met her at the market and had a change to capture a few very QUICK snaps... there is just too much going on for a 1 year old to focus for long.

Oreo

Oreo is a rescue pup from Vancouver SPCA who recently arrived on the Island. She looks a bit like a Coolie, but could be a Border Collie, not quite sure, but we do know she is adoreable.

Bella

This little one is from Parksville! I just love her colors and her little mitten feet don't you/

Bella

I bet you can guess her breed! Yep a Shih Tzu oh and she loves the camera... no problem with her posing.

Lisa

This ol gal is 12 year old Lisa who just adored hanging out and people watching. I mean who wouldn't!

Meet Lisa ( aka Foxy Lady )

This girls eyes... she has so much class, and connection.

Oliver

Oliver went out on the town with his pops to show off his newest hair do. Isn't it the prettiest. My goodness he was adoreable.

Oh Oliver!

That face.... swoon.

Maggie and Roy

This gal is Maggie, she hangs out at the market all the time! I spied them first thing when I arrived and so glad I got the chance to chat and meet them both.

Maggie

I am sure the pups I work with think I am crazy with the sounds I make to get them to tilt and squint at me like Maggie does.

Meet Hottie

The first pup I spotted after I parked. This little one is a new to this family as she is a rescue gal. She won the. jackpot of parents since she spends her days with Christie and Matt at work at Full Bug Records on Jubilee. How awesome is that!

Hottie

I had a chance to click the shutter 3 times and that was it.. Hottie was done with me! But isn't this alley way just stunning light at 9 am?

Kona, Kona Ba-Bona, KONA!

Ok, I admit it , I have captured Kona many times in the past - his mum is Heather - you can find HER at Walk in Comfort most days. On Saturdays Kona hangs with friends and I always see him at the market!

Oh Shilo!

This baby is around 6 months old and is a border collie mix, he was sooooo good! I actually saw his mum buying some items from Thorston's Foods ( yummy). Shilo's mum and dad ( Donna and Shawn) were so impressed with how well Shilo posed.

Meet Luna.

Karen, Steve & Luna were practicing staying calm at the market. At 7 months old the world is very exciting & the rules are still new. To make it quick I got 5 shutter clicks of her then she nailed it with a head tilt!

Old Man Duggie

Jane and Duggie are new arrivals to the island coming from Ottawa! What a treck, and change. If you can believe it this distinguished fella is 14 years old and just loved all the attention at the market.

Duggie

Freya's Eyes

Swooon for the coon hound mix. My goodness Tamara, you are so lucky.

Freya

I spotted this one, around the corner and waited for the opportunity to get this shot. I just love the head tilts. Freya is a coon hound mix and just lovely as can be. Thank you Tamara for letting me get this image!

Echo

Oh my goodness smitten with this beauty, literally crossed the street ask to take a photo. Ashley was working with a new harness, which Echo did not like& may be why I have such a big smile when it was removed for the quick snap!

Unfortunately, I missed this little one's name but she was certainly full of beans. I had this 1 shot and that was it, she was just too excited with all the distractions..
