Norwegian Fjords from Snowy Mountain Fjords in Cawston, BC: Meet Venus

In the serene landscapes of Duncan, BC, Geraldine found her perfect equine companion in Snowy's Venus, a 20-year-old Brown Dun Fjord Mare born in April 2004. Venus hails from the esteemed Snowy Mountain Fjords in Cawston, BC, known for their exceptional breeding practices of Norwegian Fjord horses.

Geraldine has always been drawn to the draft type horses for their strength and sturdiness but found them too large for her needs. Discovering the Norwegian Fjord horse was a revelation. "They are small but very strong and very easy keepers with sturdy legs and great feet, and they have a very easy-going temperament," she says. This unique combination of traits makes them ideal for therapeutic riding, showcasing their gentle and reliable nature.

Venus is not just a horse; she is a cherished family member. Geraldine fondly recalls many memories with Venus, describing her as the sweetest horse who loves being brushed, groomed, and fussed over. Unlike some other Fjords, Venus can be spooked by new objects and needs time to get accustomed to new things, reflecting her sensitive and cautious nature. Despite this, Venus shares a magical bond with Geraldine, often following her without a lead, staying close by and connected. This profound trust and connection make their relationship truly special.

One endearing yet slightly mischievous habit of Venus is her love for playing with her drinking water. She has been splashing and dunking her nose in water since day one, a quirky trait that never fails to bring a smile to Geraldine’s face.

The Norwegian Fjord horse, like Venus, is known for its versatile and hardy nature. They are small but mighty, with a robust build and incredible strength. Their calm and friendly disposition makes them excellent companions, particularly in therapeutic settings. Fjords are also easy keepers, requiring minimal maintenance with sturdy legs and great feet. These characteristics make them ideal for a variety of equestrian activities, from riding to driving.

Snowy Mountain Fjords in Cawston, BC, prides itself on breeding these remarkable horses. Their dedication to maintaining the purity and excellence of the Norwegian Fjord breed ensures that each horse, like Venus, embodies the best traits of this ancient and revered breed.
