That Time I Fell in Love with Horse Shows

I think I’ve got arena dust permanently embedded in my boots—and honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Back in July I had the absolute best time second shooting at the Three Breed Classic Horse Show in Prince George. Two full days of non-stop action, incredible horses, cowboy hats galore, and more shutter clicks than I could count. I was lucky enough to team up with Corrie Lindroos Photography (total pro, total gem), and from the first horse to the final round of applause, we were in the groove.
I didn’t fully know what I was getting into—but wow, did I fall hard for the energy of it all. The way these riders connect with their horses, the power and precision of each movement, the chaos and beauty of it. There’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of photographing a reining stop or catching the light just right as a rider gallops past with their hat flying and fringe swaying.
It was loud. It was fast. It was sweaty. It was AMAZING.
The best part? The people. I met so many welcoming, passionate folks—riders, coaches, families—and it all felt like being adopted into this little world where everyone smells like horses and smiles come easy. There were jokes, stories shared ringside, and that unspoken nod between horse lovers that says “yep, we get each other.”
And oh, the images. I’ve got memory cards full of dramatic movement, strong silhouettes, horses mid-spin, and riders so in sync with their horses it looked like choreography. These are the kind of photos that make your heart race a little—and make you wonder how soon you can get back in that ring.
So yeah... this might’ve been my first horse show shoot, but it sure won’t be my last.
I’m hooked.
