Twist

Some dogs show up and immediately choose you.
Twist is that guy.
Black and white, young, bright-eyed, and very much a “tell me what you want and I’ll do it (while wagging)” kind of Border Collie. He’s wildly tuned in to his human, ridiculously eager to please, and has zero hesitation about handing out hugs to anyone who happens to walk by. Stranger? Friend? Tree? Doesn’t matter. If you’re near Twist, affection is happening.
He’s also a sensitive soul—in the best way. Thoughtful. Observant. The kind of dog who feels everything deeply… but still absolutely loses his mind (in a good way) over water, sticks, disc toss, agility, and his mom. Especially his mom
We met up for a relaxed play date, which honestly felt like it was designed for dogs like Twist. Water to splash in, rocks to hop across, trails to wander, and just enough variety to keep curious brains happy without overwhelming anyone. It’s one of those spots where you can slow down, explore, and let things unfold naturally—which is exactly how I like to work.
Twist wasted no time making himself at home.
Water? Immediately yes.
Sticks? Obviously.
Trails? Let’s see where this one goes.
Between splashing sessions and sniff breaks, we played with some of his skills—down, sit, stay—all delivered with that classic Border Collie focus and a quick “did you see that, Mom?” glance for approval. But our absolute favourite?
“Touch.”
Hands down. (Pun fully intended.)
That cue gave us the best little peekaboo moments—Twist popping his nose around tree trunks, curious eyes peeking through, soft expression, just a hint of mischief. The kind of images that feel playful and real, not posed or forced. Very much him.
And yes, he’s an athlete. Disc toss? Loves it. Agility? Bring it on. He’s got that drive and brain power Border Collies are famous for. But what really stood out was how gentle he is. How aware. How he balances all that energy with sensitivity and connection.
This wasn’t about perfect obedience or flashy tricks. It was about letting Twist be Twist—wiggles, hugs, water paws, sticks, and all.
Dogs like him are a reminder that the best photos don’t come from forcing moments. They come from giving space, following their lead, and leaning into who they already are.
Water on his paws.
Forest trails underfoot.
His favourite human close by.
Honestly? A pretty perfect day.
