Jasper – One Pup, Two Sessions, All Heart

Some pups walk in like they own the place—and Jasper was absolutely one of them. With his wire-haired coat, bold tri-colour markings, and those unbelievable blue-streaked eyes, he had me smitten from the very first Zoom call.

Yep, this one started with a planning call over Zoom where I got to meet Heather, Bjorn, and their new little heart-stealer, Jasper. These calls are my favourite way to get a feel for your vibe, talk about what kind of session will suit you best, and help plan the details—from outfit tones to locations to what kind of artwork you’re dreaming of for your walls or album.

For Jasper’s first session, the plan was an outdoor beach shoot. We picked out the perfect colour palette—tans, greys, and pops of burgundy—to tie in with Jasper’s rich coat and his people’s cozy, modern style. But then… surprise snowstorm. Gotta love the West Coast.

Since we didn’t want to miss capturing Jasper while he was still a puppy (they grow so fast!), we pivoted and brought the session into the studio instead. And honestly? It was a fantastic choice.

The studio gave us space to slow things down and really focus on connection and details. On a clean black backdrop, Jasper’s colouring was absolutely striking. We got classic family portraits, sweet shots of Jasper with Mum, and a bunch of solo puppy moments that showed off his cheeky personality and soulful eyes.

He gave us everything from stoic little head tilts to the kind of curious expressions only a Dachshund can pull off. Regal and ridiculous in equal measure—just how we like it.

A few weeks later, the sun came out, the snow melted, and we finally got to hit the beach for round two.

We timed it perfectly to catch the golden hour glow. The light was soft and warm, wrapping everything in this beautiful honey-coloured haze. We had the wide-open beach to ourselves, with epic views that stretched forever—rolling waves, dramatic skies, and that perfect West Coast stillness.

Jasper, now a little more grown and a whole lot more confident, was full of beans. He ran, explored, and showed off his teenage energy, but still nailed it when it was time to pose. He was cheeky, as always, but also the absolute best boy for Mum and Dad—listening, connecting, and throwing us just enough sass to make every image feel authentic.

We ended the session with stunning silhouette shots against the setting sun—dramatic skies, glowing edges, and a family perfectly framed by nature. Those final images? Pure magic.

n the end, splitting Jasper’s session into two parts wasn’t just a workaround—it was a gift. We captured him at two different stages: soft and floppy puppyhood, and bold, energetic teenager. We got two totally different vibes—classic and timeless in the studio, then wild-hearted and free on the beach.

And together, they tell the full story of Jasper.
