Outdoor Photography Session

So—you’ve booked your dog’s outdoor photo session (yay!) and now you’re wondering… what next?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ll guide you through every step during our planning call, but here’s a little preview of what helps make your dog’s outdoor session smooth, stress-free, and fun—for both of you.

Know Your Dog’s Comfort Zone

Is your dog full of beans and loves exploring? Or are they a bit more cautious in new places? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here—every dog is different, and we’ll choose a location that fits them.

If your pup is reactive, nervous around strangers, or doesn’t love new environments, don’t stress—we can go somewhere quiet or familiar. I also use long lenses when needed so I don’t need to be up close in your dog’s space.

Bonus: No flash. Natural light only. So we keep it low-stress for sensitive pups.

 Give Them a Little Pre-Session Glow-Up

A light grooming session can make a big difference in how polished your dog looks in photos. Nothing too wild—just a tidy-up around the face, eyes, and paws. If they shed a lot, a good brushing the day before helps too.

If your dog is a mud magnet, maybe hold off on forest puddles the morning of. (Been there. Still fun. Just… more towel-heavy.)

Bring the Bribes

Bring your dog’s absolute favourite treats—seriously, the “I’ll do anything for this” kind. Small, soft ones work best for quick rewards. If they have a favourite toy (especially one that squeaks or crinkles), bring it along too!

Treats = focus. Toys = spark. Both help us capture those ears-up, eyes-bright, tail-wag moments.

Dress for the Scene (Yes, You Too!)

If you’ll be in the photos (and I hope you are!), think in tones and textures that complement your dog’s colouring and the outdoor setting. Neutrals, soft earth tones, denim, or a pop of colour like burgundy or mustard can look amazing.

I’ll help you plan this during our call so everything feels pulled together—not matchy, but connected.

Don’t Worry About “Perfect”

Some of the best moments happen in between. The sniff breaks, the tongue-out smiles, the sudden zoomies. Let your dog be a dog. I’ll be watching and ready for those moments—the real ones that tell your story.

You don’t need a perfectly trained dog. You just need to show up. I’ll take care of the rest.

What to Bring Checklist:

  • Leash + poop bags
  • Water and bowl
  • High-value treats
  • A favourite toy (squeaky or soft)
  • Something to toss (ball or frisbee)
  • Towel, brush and wet wipes for quick clean ups
  • Blanket or towel for sitting shots (optional)
  • Anything sentimental or special you'd like included

Last But Not Least…

Trust the process. This is meant to be fun and memorable—not stressful or stiff. Whether your dog is calm, wild, or somewhere in between, we’ll make space for their personality to shine.

You’ll walk away with more than just pretty pictures—you’ll have memories of you and your dog just being together in one of your favourite places.

Let’s talk locations, vibes, and how to make your dog’s personality shine.
